'Pictures of People' Art Exhibition
Thursday 17 May 2007 to Friday 30 November 2007
Lockwoods Cafe Bar and Restaurant
Renowned Ripon artist David Stead is well known for uncompromisingly drawn, multilayered impasto oils of northern landscapes, and has recently also turned his attention to the citizens of Ripon.
‘Pictures of People’ is David’s most ambitious and challenging exhibition and a huge undertaking. By September he will have produced over a hundred portraits ranging from oils on canvas and charcoal drawings, to smaller works of multi-media and pen drawings. David said "this is as much a social document and interactive event as an exhibition; we are using the walls of Lockwoods to involve the wider community of Ripon. The end of the summer will see many faces familiar to all who live and work in the city." In addition, David has created two large oil canvases for Lockwoods. These are bright, bold and vibrant paintings of Ripons Market Square and Racecourse, which observe the rich mix of traditional and contemporary imagery in these environments. Matthew Lockwood said "Our aim is to create a refreshing experience of traditional flavours in a relaxed contemporary setting. In line with this we have adapted our colour scheme and lighting in order to showcase "Pictures of People" to best effect. This has given the restaurant a more intimate feel and puts us firmly at the heart of the community of Ripon". Lockwoods Restaurant 83 North Street Ripon 01765 607555 www.lockwoodsrestaurant.co.uk
