NORTHERN COAST AND COUNTRYSIDE
Thursday 28 January 2010 to Thursday 28 January 2010

A contemporary photographic exhibition
Local photographer Kirstie Handley 38, has spent many years developing a specialism in North East culture, people and its Landscape. Following an early career in press photography and an honours degree in the subject, she has devoted her photographic skills and knowledge to capture the many aspects of North East life.
Ms Handley say's 'As an artist my photography draws on my experiences and surroundings, always my intention is to 'freeze' a moment through my camera using emotions and feelings inspired by what I see. The magnificence and drama of the North East coast and neighbouring landscape has a strong influence on the character, energy and strength of the people who live close to it. I attempt to capture this spirit and it is my profound hope that I then present it to an audience who can then re-live their own precious slice of this great landscape
The exhibition at Lockwoods Restaurant in Ripon is taken from a body of work Kirstie has created over the last few years whilst travelling across the North of England, it displays work exclusively selected for Lockwoods as limited edition prints.
Kirstie say's "Lockwoods combines the best of traditional and contemporary side by side, in its ambience, service and food. As soon as you walk through the door you feel a refreshing sense of wellbeing. I am hoping that my images will inspire customers to fully enjoy the experience'.
Matthew Lockwood, owner of Lockwoods Restaurant in North Street, Ripon strives to produce "a refreshing experience of traditional flavours, in a relaxed contemporary setting". This passion has been recognised by a Deliciouslyorkshire award from the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber, which is a testament to the great locally sourced ingredients used in his menus
Matthew say's, "Our fresh locally produced food comes from the sea and land, and contains all the goodness you see and feel when out in nature. I am delighted that we will be exhibiting Kirstie's inspiring photography, which captures Yorkshires great pantry from which we work".
Kirstie Handley's work has achieved critical acclaim in the British Journal of Photography, and the exhibition at Lockwoods will run from January 28th until the end of July 2010.
