Ripon Market In Pictures From the Past

Friday 27 January 2012 to Saturday 31 March 2012

Ripon Market In Pictures From the Past

Ripon Local Studies Research Centre and Ripon Library would like to invite you to an exhibition of archive pictures unveiling life as it was on Ripon Market Place in the 1900’s.

With its busy market and ancient Cathedral, Ripon has been an attraction to photographers from the earliest days of the art. Possibly, for its size, it has been one of the most photographed cities in England. The Ripon Local Studies Research Centre has access to an extensive collection of historic photographs of Ripon and, by arrangement with North Yorkshire County Libraries, will be staging an exhibition based around them at Ripon Library. The exhibition will start on 27/01/2012 and will be available to view until the end of March 2012. rnrnThe exhibition offers a window into the past with unposed photographs of market traders and local people, some of whom could be your ancestors, going about their daily business on the market square. rnrnRipon Local Studies Research Centre, based at the Workhouse Museum in Allhallowgate, is a volunteer organisation set up in 1999 by the well known local historian the late Mike Younge, and undertakes research into family history, local history and local archaeology. New members are always welcome. rnIf you would like to learn more about Ripon Local Studies Research Centre please visit www.riponlocalstudies.org or you can contact us by phone: 01765 601734 or via email rnriponlocalstudies@btconnect.comrnrnFor more information about the exhibition and the opening times of Ripon Library please visit:rnwww.northyorks.gov.uk/riponlibrary or contact the library on: 0845 034 9524or via email: Ripon.Library@northyorks.gov.ukrnrnRipon Library and Customer Services CentrernThe ArcadernRiponrnNorth YorkshirernHG4 1AGrn
