New Road opening
Thursday 20 November 2008
THE county council has announced the opening date for the new city centre link road.
The relief road, between North Street and Blossomgate, will be opened to traffic on Saturday (November 22), it has just been confirmed.
At the same time, all the traffic management and traffic diversions that were set up while the construction works took place will be removed and the road network will revert to the original arrangement.
It is anticipated that there may be some delays to traffic while the changes are put in place but every effort will be made to ensure they are kept to a minimum, says North Yorkshire County Council.
Following the opening of the new access road, traffic flows around Ripon will be assessed over a couple of months to see how the new arrangements are working. The council will then consider if further changes should be made in consultation with the public.

County Coun John Fort, Executive Member for Highways and Transportation said: "I am pleased this new access road has been completed so far ahead of schedule and has demonstrated the effort that has been put in to minimise the adverse effect the works have had on Ripon and its residents.
"I am sure this new access road will improve traffic flows around Ripon and we will continue to review traffic arrangements to see if further changes are needed."
